Exclusive Interview: Promise Benson Speaks on his new single “The Atmosphere” and album release plan

Naijagospelbeats caught up with talented songwriter, singer and recording artiste Promise Benson. Promise is no stranger in the gospel music industry with hits songs rocking the airwaves since 2013.

What was the inspiration behind your latest single “The Atmosphere”

Promise Benson: I had a personal retreat to seek the face of God concerning some issues. During that encounter, I got a revelation about the significance of the atmosphere we live under. So I found myself telling God that my atmosphere is conducive for Him to do what He wants to do in my life. That was how the song came. Download Atmosphere

What stood out for you during the production of that song?

Promise Benson: the Spirit of the song during the recording was amazing. The producer and the singers were slayed in the Spirit, some of them responded to the song by crying profusely. There and then i knew God had given me a global song.

Why did it take you so long to come back with a new single?

Promise Benson: Has it really been long, well, our music is saturated with sampling. Everyone wants to blow, so whatever sells, is what we want to do. I guess i came to a place of reinventing myself and my style. Now i make music out of revelation and not just about what sells, hence the reason for the break.

You had a song Have Your Way which was released after one of your hit song “Egwuoma” and it didn’t receive much reception as your latest, what happened?

Promise Benson: “Have your way” didn’t do as much as I expected because of the timing of its release. Secondly we didn’t push it as much we planned to. But not withstanding, the people who came in contact with the song were truly blessed. In January, my Mother in-law was terribly sick to the point of death, she came in contact with the song and keyed into it, and God healed her.

With so many new emerging artiste, are you not scared of your relevance in the industry?

Promise Benson: well there are no lonely fields, everywhere is saturated whether it is banking, fashion or medicine. I have been able to carve a niche for myself in the music industry, so am not scared of losing my relevance. The sky is large enough for many stars. Lol

How do you define music success?

Promise Benson: music success for me is impact. I tell people that music in its totality is beyond making people dance. Its a tool for healing, thinking, reading, relaxing, dancing, bonding and pleasure. You are successful when your music meets all these criterias…

Would you take $1billion to forgo music?

Promise Benson: $1billion is alot of money, very tempting! I may never make that kind of money doing music, but the impact of my music to my world and the fulfilment it will bring me cannot be quantified in monetary terms. So I’ll choose my music any day anytime.

What should we expect next from you?

Promise Benson: I’ll be dropping 2 more singles before the release of my album sometime in November. Will also be having RAW with Promise Benson and friends sometime in August and a street Jam in December.
